Kiwi;

Kiwi is the word they would call you

When you’re too black,

Too black to be black

So black they would call you dark

Maybe you were baked from charcoal

Or are your sins so dark they stain you?

They would say,

“the only thing bright about you are your teeth”

The next time they call you kiwi,

Own it

But then tell them,

That you’re the only child on earth,

Who was polished before birth

And yes, even kiwi’s do shine

Maybe melanin, is the polished word for Kiwi
