Wait-in-line

May 16 2018 , Written by Ofem Ubi Published on #poetry, #Edu-tension

School;

School is the green word for mortuary,

See as they sit in coffins

disguised as classrooms

look deep,

how many mortuaries can you see?

with corpses just too many

breathing corpses,

watch,

as the teacher, reads out their eulogies in form of a lecture

sprinkling the holy water of history

into those gravestones they call notes

here we pay to die, slowly

we have mastered the art of death

look how we wait in line,

as the clay kisses our bodies for yet another countless time

we are the receipts of the systems deceit

for if God doesn’t come now

we would join our ancestors in the afterlife

the place they call the labor market.
