The Fountain Of Youth
When we were young
Soft in age and tender in thoughts
We lived our lives in the shadows of our desires
Our eardrums were insidious
And lessons tapped on them sunk deep
We had no childhood
We just grew up too fast
Our lives were movie scenes already scripted
And all we did was play into character
We were advised to do as told
Because wisdom as they said rest on the tongue of the old
So we followed
Without having to question the leader
Our tongues were deceased
And we had mouths for caskets
We became mobile mortuaries
Buried in ourselves
Cases of emptiness
They told us about music
That the secular type was devilish
But sometimes it’s cool to ride with the devil when the angel seems too boring
They never told us about sex
Their faces wore darkness every time the issue sprouted
So in our curiosity we became the lab rats
As we made experiments off our burning blood and our sisters came back home with pot bellies as test results
We became under aged parents
They told us it was easy to serve GOD
But they never foresaw skin flick as a sub religion
Our minds were hotel reservations
Equipped with pre-dressed bedrooms ready to skin-teract with any eve we laid taste on
They told us about education
Answer to all questions
So we lived our years in pursuit of degrees that never paid the bills afterwards
Funny how we became question marks ourselves
As we star trekked the streets with our worth measured in A4 papers and font size letters
Suicidal ropes hung on our necks disguised as ties
They said our talents were irrelevant
So we let them flame in the bonfire
We are the inhalers of grief
The socially asthmatic
The ones who had no option to reincarnate their options
So all we did was stare at our lives as they sped past us
We became the dead while alive
We are the walking mannequins
They say experience is the best teacher
But we lived most of our lives experiencing
That we never had time to live properly
