JOY IN JAIL

May 17 2017 , Written by Ofem Ubi Published on #poetry

Your love caught me in the act again

Like it always has

With both hands soaked in sin

Face smeared in the color of condemnation

And though I tried hard enough to deny my atrocities like I always did

With danger dripping down my finger nails

My eyes pleaded guilty but my heart didn’t

The arrogance in my heartbeat was just too strong to succumb to the penalties

I was just one diehard criminal

Who always misused your grace card disguised as bail

And this time all I deserved was eternity behind bars

And yes you gave it to me

But this time it felt different

I actually felt joy in jail

Your redemption became my cell uniform

You exchanged my fingerprints with yours

You became the path to eternal life through earthly death

I love to remain in your cuffs

And if this is what it feels like to be in prison

Then I plead for life sentence
