Smiles And Pairs

September 3 2017 , Written by Ofem Ubi

When she hands you a pair of smile
Warm;cheek fitted
Graceful like the eyes of a child born in a manger
You'll remain in awe
Carried away by the breeze eloping from the space in her front teeth
Getting lost in the thoughts of how much you look like a missing budget
The type your country's yet to find
Sometimes she might hand you a deflated pair
Rumpled and smeared in ashes
Do not refund it back to her
Take it
But bury it in the cemetery of your back pocket
And give her yours
Warm;face fitted
Allow her cheeks feel the tenderness of it
And let her jawbones become the pillars to hold them together
Life support
Let her face wave like morning ocean
When she hands you a pair of smile
Warm;chin fitted
Do not wear half a pair
Do not think of which fits for which cheek
Do not wear one and keep the other
When your right cheek carries laughter
And the left wears the color of sadness
Your mirror will tell of how much you look like a broken emoji
No;wear both, gracefully
For one day again she'll come with another deflated one
And you'll hand over yours like you've always done
Wear as much pairs as she hands over
For you're saving for the rainy day
