Art Insight

May 26 2019 , Written by Ofem Ubi Published on #AI

Greetings,

Art has been more constructive than destructive for me.  From a quantum level, actively creating continually offers a long-term emotional release. As I engage in the abstract I feel a stronger connection to a deeper level of my existence. From where I stand, the world of art has shown more intrinsic value than money and material possessions. Some days I can't help but feel guilty when nothing creative was done or thought of. I'm sure fellow artist may agree when I say that the feeling of stagnating or creatively blocked is equivalent to running out of a road to travel on.

Art has also impacted my personal life in sizable amounts of simplicity. Minimalism is the art form which I am most infused in and influenced by besides Abstract and Surreal Aesthetics. I enjoy being silent & observing. There is so much constantly being marketed to us in society. Finding simplicity in all the chaos can be quite tricky. Being in remote space or even out in nature can tune out all that overloads the inner dialogue as well as promoting focus.

BIO

Chance Nkosi Gomez is a visual artist born in St.Lucia W.I October 24th, 1994. He began producing conceptual imagery after finding interest in the work of Ben Zank, Aleksandra Kingo & Brooke Didonato. Using suburban and industrial environments as a stage Nkosi manipulates negative-space, form, line, and the human figure to create a minimalist visual dialogue. Although each photograph varies in its approach his work relates to the subconscious mind. His subjects embody the joint-like posture of mannequins. They allude view, hiding themselves behind objects and other times reveal their strange nature in an ordinary remote world. By revealing body parts or diverting the view of their face, the images become more equivocal, the viewer is no longer able to tie a defined story line to the image with the little information he has given about the subjects themselves. Over the last four years he has released four photographic books, "Images - A Southern African Road Trip (2013, Self-published), Follow me i'll be right behind you (2017, Self-published), Sonata - Minimal Study & Birds Singing Lies". He is currently majoring in photographic technology at Miami-Dade College and is in pursuit of his BFA.
